Winter Skin Survival Guide

The BM&Y Winter Skin Survival Guide.

We all love long winter walks, followed by cosy evenings in front of the fire. Unfortunately, the winter can cause our skin to become dry, dehydrated and sensitive. Don’t despair, sore skin doesn’t have to be an inevitable part of the colder seasons; read on to discover our winter skin survival tips.

Why do we get tight, sensitive skin in the winter?

The skin becomes easily irritated as we face central heating, harsh winds and low humidity.

  • The central heating dehydrates our skin.
  • Harsh winds can disrupt our skin’s precious barrier.
  • The snow (however beautiful) bounces the sun’s UV rays back at us; think of skiers’ sunburn!
  • During the winter months, we tend to drink less and can become dehydrated, which also impacts our skin health.
Annoyingly, these fluctuations in temperature and weather can also exacerbate inflammatory skin diseases such as rosacea, and eczema. In which case, we’d advise you visit your GP or dermatologist.

What can we do to prevent sore skin during the colder months?

Keeping skin hydrated and moistuized will help repair and protect your skin from the drying effect of central heating and the cold, harsh weather.

Drink More Water

A cold glass of H20 doesn’t appeal when it’s chilly outside,
so why not have a cosy herbal tea instead?

Our favourite blend is chamomile by Mr Ames Tea which
you can find in our Relaxing Collection
.

Keep Your Skin Moisturized

Choose a non-occlusive, gentle moisturiser full of  skin soothing ingredients. Our favourite facial oil contains hydrating Rosehip.

You can  find this in our Gua Sha Facial Collection

Use Gentle Skincare Products

Use Gentle Skincare Products

Avoid over-treating your skin with harsh skincare products and treatments which will only cause irritation and further damage your skin’s precious barrier. Instead, opt for gentle eco cleansing pads such as BM&Y Konjac Sensitive Skin Collection

Remember to use temperate water when cleansing and washing your face, always avoid extremes, your skin has enough to deal with!

Wear an SPF

Sun protection isn’t just for the summer months! Opt for  lip balms, hand and face creams which contain SPF. This is one of the easiest ways to protect your skin’s appearance and health at any age

We wish you the happiest, cosiest and healthiest winter and hope our winter skin survival guide has helped your largest organ stay soft, supple and calm.

Much love x
